Ukraine Braces for New Russian Offensive: Urgent Call for US Aid

The head of the Ukrainian president's office, Andriy Yermak, has issued a warning about another Russian attack. "Vladimir Putin is gearing up for a new mobilization wave, and we anticipate that this counteroffensive could kick off in late May or early June, targeting Kharkiv," Yermak predicted in an interview with Politico. He underscored the urgent need for additional air defense systems, stating, "without them, defending our cities will be impossible."

In his dialogue with Politico, the Ukrainian presidential office leader highlighted the impending Russian counteroffensive, pinpointing Kharkiv in the northeast as the most probable target. "Kharkiv has been a hotspot of particularly brutal confrontations; earlier Russian assaults have laid waste to its vital infrastructure," Yermak pointed out.

The Kremlin's planned assault is expected to unfold within the next one to two months. "We are aware of Putin's mobilization preparations, estimating these Russian endeavors could start between late May and early June. Preparing for this is imperative," remarked Yermak, stressing the critical need for more air defense systems.

Emulating Reagan in the struggle against the "evil empire"

Kyiv is optimistic about securing American support, specifically a $60 billion aid package currently stalled in the US Congress by Republicans allied with Donald Trump, who is in the running for the presidency come November.

The chief of Zelensky's office reminded the Republicans and their presidential hopefuls that they are inheritors of Ronald Reagan's legacy. "Reagan had a deep understanding of the Soviet Union and Russia. Anyone who grasps this will continue to back our troops, recognizing that dictators will not halt voluntarily; they must be confronted and stopped," Yermak implored.

He also highlighted that time is of the essence for Ukraine's resistance efforts. "It's a pivotal moment, and securing the aid package within this month is of utmost importance," Yermak told Politico.
