UK and US to bolster Ukraine's defenses with thousands of AI‑equipped drones

The development of new technologies defining the future of warfare has sparked a global race. Russia is ramping up its domestic production of combat drones to support its invasion of Ukraine, receiving substantial supplies from its ally, Iran. However, Ukraine is not without support.

Bloomberg, citing anonymous sources, reports that the United Kingdom, in collaboration with the United States, plans to provide Ukraine with thousands of new AI-equipped drones.

The AI-supported drones will be deployed in large numbers, communicating with each other to track enemy locations. None of these drones will require human control. According to sources, these drones could be deployed to Ukraine within a few months, although they caution that this timeline could experience delays.

These sources also state that while these new drones won't solve the pressing need for missiles, they can help mitigate some of these shortages and introduce a new dynamic on the battlefield.

During a speech in Munich on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged his allies to provide greater quantities of weapons and long-range artillery. "Keeping Ukraine in an artificial scarcity of artillery and long-range weapons allows Putin to adapt to the current intensity of the war," he said.
