Known for his controversial statements, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba took to his X account on Saturday evening to express his sentiments. "I am tired of killing Nuer. Tell your leader Riek Machar to come and kneel before President Salva Kiir," he wrote, underscoring Uganda’s support for the South Sudanese president.
What are the consequences of Uganda's intervention?
Led by General Kainerugaba, Uganda intervened in South Sudan to protect President Salva Kiir and secure Juba's capital. The general warned that any actions against the president would be considered a declaration of war against Uganda. "As of 2 days ago, our Special Forces units entered Juba to secure it," wrote Kainerugaba.
Is this the first time Uganda has entered South Sudan?
Uganda previously intervened in South Sudan when civil war broke out between the Nuer and Dinka tribes in December 2013. At that time, the Ugandan Armed Forces arrived to safeguard the international airport in Juba and facilitate the evacuation of Ugandans. However, the UPDF became involved in clashes with rebels and faced accusations of using cluster bombs.
