American media reported a tragic incident involving Mark Coleman in March. According to their accounts, the 59-year-old was staying at his parents' home in Fremont, Ohio, when a fire broke out at night. Coleman was awakened by his dog's barking, alerting him to the fire.
Coleman immediately took action, evacuating his parents and carrying them out of the burning building. After ensuring their safety, he went back to save the dog. Tragically, he was unable to escape the flames on his own and was eventually rescued by firefighters who arrived on the scene. Unfortunately, the dog he tried to save perished in the fire.
The website essentiallysports.com reported that Coleman was in critical condition following the incident. The retired fighter suffered from smoke inhalation and sustained extensive burns. He was airlifted to a hospital in Toledo for treatment.
UFC to honor Coleman
Fortunately, Coleman's condition has been improving steadily. He was first brought out of a coma and subsequently discharged from the hospital.
Coleman will be honored to place the BMF belt on the title fight winner at UFC 300. UFC President Dana White confirmed Coleman's attendance at the Saturday event in Las Vegas at a special press conference on Thursday, where the event was announced.
