U.S. and Ukraine set to ink important rare earth deal April 24

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the agreement on Ukrainian rare earth metals will be signed "next Thursday," which is April 24.

When asked about a possible ceasefire in Ukraine, he said, "We'll see what we can do. And I think we're getting close, but we'll let you know very soon."

When questioned about Putin's reaction, Trump said that the Russians are expected to contact the Americans soon.

"We’re going to be hearing from them this week. Very shortly, actually," he stated. "We want them to stop. We want the death and the killing to stop," he added.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned that the letter of intent regarding the agreement might be signed as early as Thursday.

Zelensky indicated that recently the U.S. proposed taking an additional step while legal teams continue to work on the agreement. This step involves signing a letter of intent to demonstrate mutual goodwill and constructive intentions. As a result, it is possible that the letter of intent, rather than the final agreement, will be signed online today.

Critics of the agreement are concerned that it might be an attempt to deprive Ukraine of control over its natural resources and infrastructure. The new project involves not only rare earth metals but also gas and crude oil.
