The shooting occurred during a parade celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs winning the Super Bowl, beating the San Francisco 49ers 25-22. Shots were then fired near Union Station, injuring over 20 people, including eight children, and one person was killed.
A few days ago, the Kansas police announced that two minors had been arrested in connection with the case. Now, new information has emerged about two adults facing charges.
The two men charged are Dominic M. Miller, 18, and 22-year-old Lyndell Mays, Jean Peters Baker, the Jackson County Prosecutor, told the media. Both are charged with second-degree murder charges, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action. As they were also hurt in the shooting, both are currently treated in the hospitals and as soon as they recover, they will be transferred to police custody on $1 million bail.
"We seek to hold every shooter accountable for their actions on that day. Every single one", said Jean Peters Baker, quoted by Fox News.
According to the prosecutor, Mays fired first when he got into an argument with a random person during the parade. Later, Miller fired the shots, and it was he who shot the only fatal victim of this event, Lisa Lopez-Galvan.
Immediately after the shooting, Kansas City Chiefs players expressed their mourning, including the team's biggest stars, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. "I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today. My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me", wrote Kelce on X.
