TV chef Duff Goldman shares traumatic drunk driving encounter, calls for vehicle safety
The owner of a Baltimore bakery, Jeffrey "Duff" Goldman, stars in Food Network shows like "Ace of Cakes", "Buddy vs Duff", and "Duff's Delicious Food". He also serves as a judge on "Cake Masters" and "Spring Baking Championship", gaining a wide following on Instagram. Recently, he shared a harrowing personal story that involved a collision with a drunk driver, accompanying this revelation with a photo of his bandaged hand.
While recalling the incident, Goldman said, "I was just on my way home from the airport, thinking about the kind of cake I'd bake for my daughter's birthday. The next thing I knew, I was surrounded by airbags and bleeding," said the father of a three-year-old.
"It's no joking matter"
According to Goldman, on a rural road, a drunk driver suddenly switched lanes and hit his car. Although he didn't sustain major injuries, recovery is expected to be long. He posted, "I'm okay, but it's going to be a long road to recovery." Along with a shot of his bandaged hand, he emphasized the seriousness of the ordeal, considering his profession involves extensive use of his hands.
Despite the frightening experience, Goldman managed to attend his daughter's birthday party. However, he wasn't fit to bake a cake for her. The incident urged him to publicly denounce drinking and driving, stating, "There is no excuse for driving under the influence. None. Use Uber, a Taxi, call a friend. No exceptions. Please be safe. Don't drink if you're planning on driving and vice versa," he concluded.
