To remove discolorations, consider preparing a homemade whitening mask. This will not only help get rid of spots but also moisturize and brighten your skin. All you need is a vegetable that you probably already have in your fridge.
Understanding how discolorations occur
Discolorations occur as a result of overproduction of melanin, an organic compound responsible for skin pigmentation. This process can cause small spots of dark or light color to appear on the face, differing from the rest of your skin color.
Discolorations can stem from various reasons, the most common one being excessive exposure of the skin to the sun. Many people forget to use sunblock. People battling acne, and those using acids or retinol should always apply sun cream on their skin before leaving the house — regardless of the weather. Lack of proper protection may lead to discolorations.
Homemade mask for skin discolorations
Cucumbers are a commonly found ingredient in most refrigerators. Our grandmothers often used it not just in the kitchen, but also for skin care. They prepared masks from it, which brightened, enhanced, and moisturized the skin. Another vegetable that can be effective against discolorations is the tomato. Simply cut it into slices and place it on a cleansed face for 20 minutes. The acids found in tomatoes possess cleansing and brightening properties. The results can be noticeable after just one treatment.
If the thought of placing vegetables on your face is unappealing, consider preparing a mask with turmeric. Turmeric's active ingredient, curcumin, is effective for smoothing the skin, lightening discolorations, and soothing inflammation. Preparing such a mask is quite simple. Mix a teaspoon of turmeric with a tablespoon of any clay (e.g., red clay), and add 2–3 tablespoons of water to make a thick paste. Apply this mask to your previously cleaned face and leave it on for 15–20 minutes. In the end, rinse it off with warm water.
