Turmeric twist: Elevate chicken drumsticks to a dinner delight

Chicken drumsticks make an excellent choice for dinner. They guarantee culinary success when seasoned in this particular and somewhat unusual way. In this recipe, the main stars are chicken and a well-known spice from India.

It's important to note that chicken drumsticks are not the most common dinner choice for many people. Some might even consider them a "second category" meat, somewhere between offal and pork cutlet. However, I believe this poultry product is an excellent dinner ingredient. It's affordable, nutritious, and easy to handle. But before they head to the oven, they need a touch of specific flavor.

Spices, of course, add character to chicken drumsticks. Provençal herbs (or a custom herb blend), garlic, and sweet or hot paprika work perfectly. However, you have to admit that this list is somewhat clichéd. The story changes with the next spice I add to chicken drumsticks. Turmeric isn't often included in such a combination.

Why do I like to add turmeric so much to drumsticks and other poultry parts? Besides being a big fan of its health benefits, I believe its taste adds significant "character" to this delicate meat. In short, chicken drumsticks suddenly become a distinctive dish that almost everyone will enjoy. Furthermore, the meat gains a slightly yellow, appetizing appearance that makes it even more enticing!

  • about 2 oz canola oil
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon of hot paprika
  • ½ teaspoon of sweet paprika
  • ½ teaspoon of oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of Provençal herbs
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 cloves of garlic

Preparation method:

  1. Combine all the spices with canola oil. Add crushed garlic cloves and mix everything thoroughly.
  2. Clean and dry the drumsticks with a paper towel.
  3. Transfer them to a dish and pour the prepared marinade over them. Rub it into each piece of poultry.
  4. Place the chicken drumsticks in the fridge and keep them there for at least a few hours.
  5. Afterward, place the drumsticks in an ovenproof dish and put it into an oven preheated to 355°F. Bake for exactly one hour, and they're ready.
  6. Serve with potatoes or rice.
