Trump's poll numbers tumble as economic promises falter
Just over a month has passed since the inauguration of Donald Trump's second term. The returning host of the White House has begun implementing his campaign promises, causing quite a stir. The result? A plunge in the polls.
The inauguration of Donald Trump's second term took place on January 20. After a month, CNN analyzed Republican politicians' support among the American public. The findings are surprising: Trump is losing supporters rapidly.
The end of Trump's honeymoon period: Polls have plummeted
In a CNN poll, support for Trump fell by 5 percentage points over the last week. A Gallup poll shows a drop of 6 points, and in the Q-Pac poll, a decline of 4 points. "In each of these surveys, Trump is clearly sinking," CNN journalist Harry Enten stated on camera, analyzing the latest polls.
Trump returned to the White House after a four-year break, and his election victory is largely attributed to his promises to revitalize the American economy, according to experts. When his economic ideas were polled in February 2017, shortly after the start of his first term, an average increase of 5 percent was noted.
Now, Trump's economic policy apparently raises concerns among Americans. A month into his term, an 8 percent drop in support for his ideas was recorded. "It's shocking," stated Harry Enten, referring to the fact that the economy was crucial in the politician's campaign.
Trump is losing the support of Americans
CNN concluded that "Trump's honeymoon period may be ending." The editorial also points to other polls published recently. In the CNN/SSRS and "The Washington Post"/Ipsos surveys, the president's critics exceed his supporters (47-52, 45-53).
A significant portion of voters believes that Donald Trump exceeded his authority by giving too much power to Elon Musk. The controversial billionaire has taken the helm of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and is seeking savings in the American administration.
Elon Musk ordered, among other things, that employees of federal agencies in the USA send an email with information about what they did at work in the previous week. A lack of response will be considered a resignation.
In the "Washington Post" survey, as many as 58 percent of respondents opposed the idea of mass layoffs of federal employees. Musk himself also has poor ratings. Only 34 percent of respondents spoke positively about his role in the Trump administration.
Meanwhile, in the CNN poll, 54 percent of respondents negatively assessed Trump's decision to entrust Musk with such a significant role.
According to the CNN poll, up to 62 percent of participants, including 47 percent of Republicans, feel that Trump did not make sufficient efforts to reduce the cost of everyday goods during his first month.
After taking office, Trump began imposing tariffs on Canada, Mexico, China, and the European Union. This also raises concern among Americans. As many as 69 percent of respondents in the "Washington Post" survey believe it will lead to price increases in the United States.
The Trump administration, however, pays little attention to polling data. According to Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields, despite negative media coverage, Americans are genuinely satisfied with the country's direction. He argued that there is little to criticize, as the administration is reversing the previous administration's unpopular policies, eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse, and continuing efforts to strengthen the nation.
Last Friday on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump announced that he's recording "the best polls he's ever had" while sharply criticizing the policies of his predecessors. Speaking about the polls, he also declared a few days ago, much to the truth's detriment, that Zelensky lacks support among Ukrainians and called him a "dictator."
Trump announced at that time that Zelensky is supported by only 4 percent of society. It turns out that as many as 63 percent of Ukrainians fully or partially support Volodymyr Zelensky's actions as the president of Ukraine, informed the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KMIS) on Friday, which published new public opinion survey results.
