Trump's Greenland gambit: Plan to win over islanders

The Donald Trump administration developed a plan to take control of Greenland, which does not involve the use of force but focuses on influencing the opinions of the island's residents about becoming part of the USA, reports "The New York Times." The plan also includes financial incentives.

As reported by the "NYT," the Trump administration has already begun implementing the plan aimed at taking control of Greenland. Several departments are involved in these efforts and have received specific instructions.

According to information obtained by "The New York Times," the plan for the United States to take over Greenland was discussed at several National Security Council meetings. It includes measures aimed at convincing the island's 57,000 residents to seek association with the USA.

Among the considered actions were advertising campaigns and activities on social media. The U.S. message would emphasize the shared heritage of Greenlanders, Inuits, and the indigenous people of Alaska.

The Trump administration is also considering offering financial benefits to Greenlanders. One idea is an annual grant of $10,000 per island resident, which would replace the current $600 million that Greenland receives from Denmark each year.

Some Trump administration officials believe that these expenses could be offset by new revenues from the exploitation of Greenland's natural resources, such as rare earth minerals, copper, gold, uranium, and oil.
