Trump's envoy delays Ukraine visit until after inauguration
General Keith Kellogg, Donald Trump's envoy for Ukraine and Russia, postponed his Kyiv trip. The visit will occur only after the new U.S. president's inauguration.
Reuters reported the change in the timing of Gen. Kellogg's visit to Ukraine, citing its own sources.
"Retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, who is to serve as Trump's special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, originally planned a mission in Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian authorities in early January. His team also organized meetings with officials in other European capitals, including Rome and Paris," reported the agency.
Kellogg is expected to visit Kyiv only after Trump takes office, although no date has been set yet, Reuters added. No reasons were given for the change in Gen. Kellogg's plans.
He is to fulfill Trump's promise
Kellogg, who served in various advisory roles to Trump during his first term, will be the chief official responsible for fulfilling the president-elect's promise to end the war in Ukraine.
In conversations, including with the Polish Press Agency, the American military figure advocated for freezing the conflict, at least temporarily excluding Ukraine's NATO membership, while offering it security guarantees. Kellogg noted, however, that this is not Trump's plan and that the final decisions are made by the president-elect himself.
The former and future president repeatedly claimed during the election campaign that he could easily end the war within a day or even before formally taking office, admitted in December that it might be challenging. After meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, he said that Kyiv is ready to make peace and called on Vladimir Putin to "take action."
