Trump's congressional address disrupted by Rep. Al Green
In the initial moments of Donald Trump's address to Congress, issues began to emerge. Texas Representative Al Green interrupted Trump and was subsequently escorted out.
Within these first few minutes, Green stood up and began to disrupt the proceedings. He waved his cane in the air, calling attention to himself.
This garnered a response from Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson. "Members are consciously and systematically breaking the rules of decorum, and the Speaker is prepared to instruct the Sergeant at Arms to restore order at the joint session," he announced.
"Mr. Green, take your seat, take your seat sir," Johnson repeated.
"Finding that members continue to engage in willful and concerted disruption of proper decorum, the chair now directs the sergeant at arms to restore order. Remove this gentleman from the chamber," declared Johnson, prompting applause from the Republicans. Shortly thereafter, an officer escorted Green out of the room.
Some Republicans expressed satisfaction at Green's removal from the chamber.
