The administration of Donald Trump is escalating the conflict with Harvard University, threatening to revoke its right to admit foreign students, writes the German newspaper "Die Welt." Minister Kristi Noem demanded documentation from the university regarding alleged "illegal and violent" actions by students with visas.
As reported by "Welt English News," Harvard rejects these allegations, emphasizing its independence and right to protest.
Noem also announced that the department would halt two grants totaling 2.7 million dollars for Harvard. She accused the university of promoting an "anti-American, pro-Hamas ideology."
Harvard responded that it fights against anti-Semitism and other prejudices while protecting academic freedom.
Harvard vs. Trump: The conflict escalates
The conflict is escalating, and the Trump administration also intends to deprive Harvard of its tax-exempt status.
In response to student protests against Israel's actions in Gaza, the Trump administration had already threatened other universities, including Columbia and Princeton, with freezing funds.
According to the administration, these protests often take the form of anti-Semitic actions. Harvard rejected the government's demands, which the university claims would violate its autonomy.
