Trump's bold 2024 peace plan: Easter ceasefire target
Although Trump has already abandoned his plan to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours, he still wants to bring an end to the fighting on the front as soon as possible. The media have obtained a plan suggesting everything could be resolved by Easter.
The investigative service "Meduza" reports on this matter. According to their information, Trump's peace plan was shared with Ukrainian journalists by European diplomats.
What does Trump's plan entail?
The first step involves a conversation between Trump and Vladimir Putin at the end of January or the beginning of February. After this, further actions are to be discussed with the Ukrainian authorities. The next step includes revoking Zelensky's decree that bans negotiations with Putin.
In addition, at the end of February or the beginning of March, a Trump-Zelensky-Putin meeting is supposed to take place, during which "the basic parameters of the peace plan" will be approved.
The ceasefire is expected to be concluded on April 20, Easter Sunday. Ukrainians will then be required to withdraw from Kursk. By the end of April, a peace conference is planned, where the United States will oversee negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. A role for China has also been included in the plan. Peace is expected to be agreed upon by May 9.
Will Ukraine forgo NATO?
According to the document, Ukraine is to forgo NATO membership and join the European Union by 2030. The plan also includes rebuilding the war-torn country with EU funds. Additionally, Ukraine will not be required to reduce its military, and the USA will continue to provide support.
Kyiv is also expected to relinquish demands for the return of territories occupied by Russia, though it will not recognize their annexation to Putin's state. Sanctions on Russia are to be gradually lifted.
Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian president's office, denied the existence of any "100-day peace plans." Meanwhile, "The Wall Street Journal" confirmed that Trump instructed the special envoy to Ukraine, Gen. Keith Kellogg, to end the war within these hundred days.
