The appeal in New York confirmed the jury's decision that held Donald Trump accountable for both sexual assault and defamation of journalist E. Jean Carroll. The appellate court's decision to uphold the verdict was unanimous, also affirming the order to pay $5 million in damages.

Court decides: Trump guilty

The judges remarked that Trump did not demonstrate any errors in the lower court's rulings. "We conclude that Mr. Trump has not demonstrated that the district court erred in any of the challenged rulings. Further, he has not carried his burden to show that any claimed error or combination of claimed errors affected his substantial rights as required to warrant a new trial," the appeals court stated.

E. Jean Carroll, a columnist for "Elle," testified that in the spring of 1996, Trump allegedly turned their friendly meeting into a brutal attack in the fitting room of the Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York City. Carroll brought these accusations to light in her 2019 book. Trump has consistently denied these allegations.
