Trump's $10K offer to Greenlanders for strategic gain

The administration of President Donald Trump is considering offering each Greenland citizen an annual check for $10,000 as part of a plan to gain control of this Danish island, which holds great strategic importance, according to "The New York Times".

Representatives from the Republican administration believe that the cost of this operation could be financed by revenues from the extraction of natural resources found on the island, including rare earth metals, copper, gold, uranium, and oil.

The United States, as reported by the Spanish agency EFE, is ready to attempt this approach to annex the Arctic island due to its strategic significance. The plan aims to win over its residents, who they claim are "practically abandoned by Denmark".

"The New York Times" reports that the American government is considering replacing the $600 million in subsidies that Denmark currently provides to Greenland with $10,000 annually for each of its residents.

Greenland is currently the world's largest island that is not a continent.

Until 1953, it was a Danish colony, and since then, it has become a Danish autonomous territory. It has 56,000 residents concentrated on the 20 percent of the territory not covered by ice and snow.

- We need Greenland, very importantly, for international security - said Vice President J.D. Vance, who visited there in March.

President Trump stated during his speech in Congress that they are all working together to achieve this goal. In response, the Greenland authorities clarified that the island is not for sale and has no intention of joining the United States.
