The Washington Post reported on Friday that Donald Trump announced that if he wins the election, he will strip Congress of some fund allocation powers and become the President of the United States with the greatest control over the federal budget in history.

This move could destabilize the established balance between the executive and legislative branches. However, the Washington Post assesses that Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court's reaction to such attempts would be crucial.

The American Constitution entrusts the control over state finances to Congress, but Trump's campaign staff believes that the president should have significantly more power in this area than currently.

Donald Trump's promises

Trump also promises that if he wins the election, he will press Congress to repeal the 1974 law restricting the president's right to spend federal money without Congress's consent and to block already approved expenditures. This law was passed in response to President Richard Nixon's abuses.

Trump maintains that repealing the 1974 law will allow him to curb inflation and reduce the deficit quickly.

The Axios portal recently wrote that Trump does not hide his desire to expand and strengthen presidential power at every administration level if he wins the election.
