The team of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is considering the possibility of undertaking military action against Iran due to concerns that sanctions may not be enough to halt Iran's nuclear program.
According to "WSJ," Trump's team is weighing various options, including an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities. These discussions have gained urgency as Iran's progress on its nuclear program accelerates.
Iran is producing fissile material at a level that allows for rapid conversion into a weapon. "WSJ" reports that within a few days, Iran could refine this material to a military grade. American intelligence has assessed that Tehran has sufficient enriched uranium reserves to produce more than 12 atomic bombs.
Two strategies
Trump's team is considering two main strategies. The first is to increase military pressure by sending more American forces to the Middle East and selling advanced weaponry to Israel. The alternative is the threat of using military force, which Trump has already applied to North Korea.
It is unclear which option Trump will choose, but in an interview with "Time" magazine, he confirmed the possibility of military action against Iran. Reasons include reports of planned attacks on him. "Anything can happen," Trump said, emphasizing the instability of the situation.
Iran announces that in case of an attack, it will expel UN inspectors and withdraw from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Tehran indicates that it could follow the example of North Korea, which quietly began producing nuclear weapons.
