The father of 20-year-old Matthew Crooks called the police due to concerns about his son, reports the BBC. This is another indication that the attack might have been preventable. It remains unclear precisely what Crooks' father told the authorities. What is certain is that he was worried because he hadn't been in touch with his son and didn't know his whereabouts. The exact timing of the call is also unknown, but it happened before the attack in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Investigators revealed that Crooks had searched online for information about mental disorders and had also looked up details about the upcoming August Democratic Convention. His computer contained photos of Donald Trump, President Joe Biden, Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI Director Chris Wray, and a member of the British royal family.

Warning signs

American media reported that before the assassination attempt, there were indicators of Crooks' presence at a rally in Butler. Police were alerted by a sniper about a suspicious individual. This information came in about 20 minutes before the attack.

According to reports, one police officer climbed to the roof of the building where Crooks was hiding. The officer retreated when Crooks pointed a gun at him. The officer then informed other law enforcement officials responsible for Donald Trump's protection, including the Secret Service. Unfortunately, moments later, the 20-year-old opened fire.
