Trump shakes up administration: Over 1,000 Biden appointees ousted
The new president of the United States, Donald Trump, began his term by removing over a thousand officials appointed by Joe Biden. Among them is General Mark Milley, who has been highly critical of President Trump, even calling him a fascist.
Donald Trump, who assumed the office of President on Monday, decided to remove more than a thousand officials appointed by his predecessor, Joe Biden, from their positions. According to the Polish Press Agency, this information was shared via social media.
General Mark Milley, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is one of the first officials to be dismissed. Milley, who served on the National Infrastructure Advisory Council until Tuesday, was preventively pardoned by Biden in the final hours of his administration.
Trump criticized General Milley for his actions during the turmoil surrounding the 2020 presidential elections. Trump accused him of treason, as Milley had reassured his Chinese counterpart that the U.S. was not planning an attack on China.
General Milley expressed the opinion that Trump is "a fascist to his core," which further strained their relations. Also dismissed was chef José Andrés. He had been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Biden and sat on the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition, from which he was removed, Reuters reports.
Trump also announced that he is removing former diplomat Brian Hook from the Wilson Center, and former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, who was nominated as vice-chair for civic engagement and voter protection.
Trump's staffing decisions are part of a broader strategy of the new administration, which aims to place its own people in key positions. These changes are intended to strengthen control over the administration and implement the new president's policies, reports the Polish Press Agency.
