During a meeting about planning next year's World Cup in soccer, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the decision to exclude Russia from the G8 group was a mistake. He suggested that the current conflict in Ukraine might not have occurred if Russia had remained in the group. However, Trump emphasized that now is not the appropriate time for Russia to rejoin the G7.

Trump also discussed discussions between his envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Vladimir Putin. He claimed that, thanks to these negotiations, Russia abandoned plans to take over all of Ukraine. "What Russia wants is all of Ukraine. And if I didn’t get involved, they would be fighting right now for all of Ukraine," said Trump.

The World Cup as motivation

When asked about Russia's exclusion from the World Cup, Trump admitted he was not aware of it but suggested that Russia's return to the games could motivate an end to the war. A similar perspective was shared by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who announced that after the conflict ends, Russia will be able to return to the organization.

Despite tensions with Canada and Mexico, Trump assured that all countries are fully cooperating in organizing the World Cup. He emphasized that he had a "very good meeting" with Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney, and predicted that their relations would be excellent.

Security and visas for fans

The head of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, assured that American services will expedite issuing visas for fans visiting the U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance added that while fans are welcome, they should return to their countries after the event, as those who do not may face deportation.

In conclusion, Trump announced that Andrew Giuliani, son of the former mayor of New York and Trump's former lawyer, will lead the task force for organizing the World Cup. This is another step in preparing for this major sports event.
