Trump picks Sean Curran to lead Secret Service after Pennsylvania attack
Donald Trump appointed Sean Curran as the new director of the Secret Service. Curran, who provided protection to Trump during an attack in Pennsylvania, has over 20 years of experience with the agency.
Donald Trump announced the nomination of Sean Curran for the position of Secret Service director. This information was shared by Donald Trump Jr. on platform X, where he emphasized that Curran is a "great patriot." Curran, the former head of Trump's personal security, has more than 20 years of service in the agency.
The decision to appoint Curran comes at a challenging time for the Secret Service. The agency faced criticism following two failed assassination attempts on Trump in 2024. The first incident took place on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was slightly injured. Curran and his team responded immediately, shielding the president-elect.
During the attack, the assailant was shot by a sniper, but questions arose regarding the effectiveness of the security measures. Experts have pointed to communication issues between local and federal security services. The second attempt occurred on September 15 in Florida, but Trump was not injured.
Although Curran has actively worked on enhancing security measures for Trump, some experts have expressed doubts about his experience in leading the Secret Service. To date, he has managed a team of about 85 people, which may not be sufficient for running such a complex organization.
