Trump not running in 2028? Vance and Harris lead race

Donald Trump is likely not to run for another term. American media outlets are already considering candidates who could replace him as President of the USA. Recent studies show that his potential replacements, such as J.D. Vance, Kamala Harris, Ron DeSantis, and Pete Buttigieg, have significant chances.

In a survey conducted in May by J.L. Partners and published by the "New York Post," J.D. Vance gained the most support among potential Republican candidates for the 2028 presidential election. As many as 46 percent of registered Republicans indicated him as their favorite.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis came in second with 8 percent support. He challenged Trump in the 2024 Republican primaries but withdrew after finishing a distant second in the Iowa caucuses.

Other candidates included entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who garnered 7 percent and has an estimated net worth of over 600 million dollars, Marco Rubio (secretary of state) and Senator Ted Cruz with 6 percent, and Nikki Haley, the former U.S. ambassador to the UN, who received around 5 percent support.

Among Democrats, former Vice President Kamala Harris has the best chance for the 2028 nomination, having received 30 percent support. Former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg came in second with 8 percent support. Governors Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania and Gavin Newsom of California both received 7 percent.

The survey did not consider Donald Trump as a potential Republican candidate, reports the "New York Post." His term ends in January 2029. Trump and his allies have, however, suggested the possibility of circumventing the Constitution to seek a third term.

JL Partners is one of the few polling firms that accurately predicted Trump's victory in the 2024 general election. The current survey was conducted among 975 registered voters on May 13–14.
