Trump issues ultimatum to Iran for new nuclear deal
The US president, Donald Trump, sent a letter to Iran's leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with a two-month deadline to reach a new nuclear agreement. A diplomat delivered the letter from the Emirates.
President Trump’s letter to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei contained an ultimatum to reach a new nuclear agreement within two months. According to CNN, a diplomat from the Emirates delivered the letter to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
In the letter, Trump proposed resuming nuclear talks between the USA and Iran while warning Tehran of the consequences of continuing its nuclear program.
The US President revealed the letter's existence in an interview with Fox Business News, emphasizing that he prefers a diplomatic solution but does not rule out military action.
Iran firmly rejects negotiation proposals
Ayatollah Khamenei rejected the negotiation proposal, calling it a "deception" by Washington. He stated that talks with the Trump administration could intensify sanctions and increase pressure on Iran.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it would respond to the letter after thoroughly analyzing its content.
At the beginning of March, Marcin Krzyżanowski, an expert on the Middle East from the Warsaw Institute, mentioned that there is little chance that Trump's threats and pressure will succeed. Tehran will not agree to negotiate under political pressure. As a republic governed autocratically, showing weakness to the main enemy could be the first step toward losing public support, Krzyżanowski said.
