Trump hints at future lift of sanctions amid US‑Russia talks

Sanctions against Russia will be lifted "at some point," said US President Donald Trump during a press conference at the White House on Wednesday.

Trump's comments came after renewed contacts between the US and Russia, including discussions about possibly ending the war in Ukraine and rebuilding mutual relations.

"No, we haven't lifted any sanctions on anybody… I guess it will be at some point, but right now, we haven't agreed to lift sanctions on anybody," said Trump.

The American president did not specify which sanctions might be lifted.

Meeting in istanbul

On Thursday, talks between US and Russian delegations took place in Istanbul. They lasted over six hours and focused on rebuilding diplomatic relations.

According to Reuters, which cited Russian media, no post-meeting press statements were made.
