Trump halts military aid to Ukraine, insists on peace talks
U.S. President Donald Trump decided to halt military aid to Ukraine in an effort to encourage them to pursue peace. A White House representative confirmed this decision, stating that even equipment currently in Poland will be halted.
A White House representative confirmed that President Donald Trump has stopped all military aid to Ukraine. This decision is intended to ensure Ukraine's participation in resolving the conflict.
The president has been clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution, stated a White House representative, as quoted by the Polish Press Agency.
The information about the suspension of aid was initially reported by Fox News before receiving official confirmation. The suspension affects all forms of aid, including arms already en route to Ukraine, even those in Poland. The decision came a few hours after Trump publicly stated he "hadn't even talked about it." The U.S. President accused the Ukrainian president of not desiring peace, unlike Vladimir Putin.
During Tuesday's address to the joint session of Congress, Trump announced the impending announcement of a minerals agreement with Ukraine. Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick mentioned that the agreement will soon be signed, which "will lead to a strong, long-term economic partnership between the United States and Ukraine."
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent highlighted that a condition for signing the agreement is Ukraine's willingness to reach a peace agreement, as noted by the Polish Press Agency.
The Trump administration has not issued any new military aid packages for Ukraine but has permitted the transfer of arms as part of the last package approved by Joe Biden.
Trump still retains the authority to transfer arms worth $4 billion to Kyiv. During Friday's meeting with President Zelensky, he affirmed that aid would continue, although he expressed hope that it would not be needed in large quantities.
