Trump era changes spark turmoil as FBI agents face removal
Changes implemented by Donald Trump's administration have reached the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). As reported by the Washington Post, the White House has begun "widespread actions" to remove specific agents from service. This concerns officers who participated in investigations conducted against Trump.
According to the "Washington Post," the "purge" may impact hundreds of individuals, including both senior officials and rank-and-file agents.
As noted by the "New York Times," several high-ranking FBI officials have already been informed about the planned dismissals. These actions target investigators involved in Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigations into Trump's efforts to remain in power after losing the 2020 election and his retention of classified documents.
Donald Trump denied ordering the mass firings but stated there are "many bad people" in the FBI.
- No, but we have some very bad people over there. It was weaponized at a level that nobody has ever seen before. They came after a lot of people like me, but they came after a lot of people (...). If they fired some people over there, that’s a good thing, because they were very bad. They were very corrupt people, very corrupt, and they hurt our country very badly with the weaponization - the President of the United States said.
"Purge" in the FBI: dismissing agents who have crossed Trump
Meanwhile, during a Senate hearing, Kash Patel, who was nominated by Trump as the new FBI director, promised he would not be firing agents en masse just because they worked on investigations against Trump.
- There will be no politicization at the FBI. There will be no retributive actions taken - Patel assured.
