Trump declares victory as NYC parking fees axed
Donald Trump is celebrating the decision to remove the fees for entering the parking zone in New York City. He announced this news to the world via social media. Not only on his profile, but also on the official White House account, an image of Trump wearing a crown with the slogan: "Long Live the King" appeared.
"President Trump took a triumphant victory lap after his administration ordered New York to end congestion pricing on Wednesday," writes the "New York Post," commenting on the images that appeared online.
"Congestion pricing is dead. Manhattan, and all of New York, is saved. Long Live The King," wrote Trump on Truth Social.
Moreover, a similar post was made on the White House account on platform X.
Donald Trump accompanied the post with a mock cover of "Time" magazine, showing him wearing a crown against the Manhattan skyline.
As the "New York Post" explains, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy announced the decision on Wednesday, writing a letter to Governor Kathy Hochul, informing her that the administration will "terminate" the approval of the parking zone entry fee program.
It is not yet known when the $9 fee will be abolished.
Manhattan entry fee
New York introduced a groundbreaking solution in the American transportation system just over a month ago. Since January 5, drivers have had to pay up to $9 to enter southern Manhattan. The authorities hoped to reduce congestion and improve air quality.
Interestingly, recent studies indicate that most residents of the Big Apple are getting accustomed to the fee.
MTA Chairman and CEO Janno Lieber criticized the "baseless efforts," as the agency filed a lawsuit to preserve the entry fees for New York.
