Trump breaks tradition with indoor inauguration ceremony
President-elect Donald Trump, who will succeed Joe Biden, arrived in Washington on Sunday, a day before his inauguration, as reported by Reuters. The future president of the United States came by plane, which Biden arranged.
Trump departed from Palm Beach, Florida, where he was preparing to take office. He was accompanied by his wife, Melania, daughter Ivanka, and her husband, Jared Kushner.
After arriving, Trump went to his golf club near Washington, where an inauguration celebration was held. The event featured a fireworks display and a performance by singer Leon Days, who impersonates Elvis Presley.
First time in 40 years
On Sunday, 78-year-old Trump was scheduled to speak at a support rally at the Capital One Arena on the outskirts of Washington. Another event is planned for Monday, where he will celebrate his victory in the November 5 election.
Due to low temperatures in the US, the inaugural ceremony was moved to the Capitol Rotunda. The parade, originally planned to pass through Pennsylvania Avenue, will take place at the Capital One Arena. This is the first time in 40 years that the inauguration will not take place on the Capitol steps. The last time this happened was during Ronald Reagan's second term in January 1985.
Trump will be sworn in on Monday at 12:00 PM local time (6:00 AM Eastern Time). After the swearing-in, he will deliver an address in which, according to tradition, presidents set the tone for their term. In an interview with NBC News, Trump stated that the motto of his speech would be "community and strength, and the word justice."
