Trump seeks immunity
Donald Trump was scheduled to appear before a federal court in Washington on March 4. The former president faces four criminal charges. However, the hearing was postponed, and a new date has yet to be set.
The legal team for the former U.S. president appealed to the judges to delay the trial until the full District of Columbia court panel can file a request for a rehearing. If required, a subsequent appeal to the Supreme Court would also be filed.
Donald Trump is the first president in U.S. history to face trial. Despite this, he is also considered a leading contender for the Republican nomination in the upcoming presidential elections. In these elections, incumbent President Joe Biden, who won against Trump in 2020, will seek re-election.
The Colorado Supreme Court has barred Donald Trump from participating in the state's primaries, citing his incitement of the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
