Donald Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that he plans to talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday. "I'll be speaking to President Putin on Tuesday. A lot of work's been done over the weekend," said the US president, underscoring the importance of preparations for this conversation.
During the conversation with journalists, Trump expressed hope for ending the ongoing conflict. "We want to see if we can bring that war to an end. Maybe we can, maybe we can't, but I think we have a very good chance," he stated.
Trump-Putin conversation
Steve Witkoff, the US Special Envoy for the Middle East, previously informed that the conversation will likely take place later this week. He emphasized that discussions will also be conducted with representatives of Ukraine.
Witkoff, after meeting with Putin, noted that the key topic of discussions will be the status of the four Ukrainian regions occupied by Russia. "I expect that there’ll be a call with both presidents this week. And we’re also continuing to engage and have conversation with the Ukrainians," he announced.
