Transform your home with versatile coffee grounds

Coffee grounds have an incredibly versatile range of uses—not just in the kitchen but also in cosmetics and home plant care. Especially during the hustle and bustle of holiday preparations, it's worthwhile to put them to good use. Thanks to their unique properties, they can quickly eliminate not only smudges from the kitchen sink but also unpleasant odors, such as those left after frying fish.

Many of us brew at least one cup of coffee a day. Whether you use a coffee maker, a moka pot, or make Turkish coffee, the waste consists of grounds that most often end up in the trash. You can enrich your garden's organic mix by using them as compost. In urban areas, compost waste often gets contaminated with items that shouldn't be in the brown bin. In that case, coffee grounds can be put to better use at home.

What properties do coffee grounds have?

Once brewed, ground coffee isn't suitable for making another drink, but that doesn’t mean the coffee beans are completely devoid of nutrients. The grounds remain rich in minerals such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which positively affect plant growth.

Coffee makes the soil more acidic, creating an ideal environment for growing plants like azaleas, hydrangeas, and rhododendrons. Coarsely ground beans can improve soil structure, and the scent of coffee acts as a deterrent to pests.

Use coffee to clean the kitchen

Coffee grounds are excellent for kitchen cleaning, particularly after frying fish or meat. The grains function like a gentle sandpaper, allowing you to effectively clean the sink with them. Additionally, coffee's aroma has the special ability to absorb other odors, making it useful for clearing the atmosphere after frying fish.

Coffee grounds in a home spa

You can prepare a home scrub from the fragrant leftovers of your morning cup. Just mix the grounds with a bath gel and a bit of body lotion. Massage this mixture into your thighs, abdomen, and buttocks, then rinse with lukewarm water. Used regularly, this treatment cleanses the skin and helps reduce cellulite.

You don't have to wait for a bath to benefit from coffee grounds. They're also great for regular hand washing. Coffee grounds eliminate unpleasant odors, making them perfect for restoring aromatic balance after chopping onions or garlic.
