The terrifying incident, reminiscent of a horror movie, happened on a bridge in Toronto. A group of friends in a Tesla unexpectedly got into an accident, hitting the barrier.
As a result of the impact, the car began to fill with smoke, and the Tesla's doors locked, preventing escape. Rick Harper, a Canadian postal worker, managed to save one of the passengers. He broke the car windows, allowing the woman to escape the fire and smoke.
I would assume the young lady would have tried to open the door from the inside, because she was pretty desperate to get out. I don't know if that was the battery or what. But she couldn't get out, the man explained to local media.
He mentioned that he couldn’t see the other victims in the car due to the dense smoke inside.
Fire safety experts believe the door malfunction was caused by a battery failure due to the impact. Calgary Fire Captain Randy Schmitz explained that electric car doors require power to operate.
Certainly the intensity of the fire is directly linked to the battery cells in the Tesla, said Jim Jessop, Deputy Fire Chief.
In this devastating accident, four friends lost their lives: 25-year-old Neelraj Gohil, his sister Ketaba Gohil (29 years old), Jay Sisodiya, and Digvijay Patel, all perished in Toronto.
