Tragic crash claims young lives as car plunges into icy river
On Saturday near Helsinki, one of the most tragic road accidents in Finland in recent years occurred. With temperatures reaching as low as -4 degrees Fahrenheit, a car plunged into a river. Four people aged between 17 and 19 lost their lives.
The car, carrying the young individuals, broke through the barriers of a wooden bridge and fell into the river. At the time of the accident, conditions were challenging. In addition to the severe cold, the road was slippery and unlit.
Finnish police emphasize that the vehicle driver was inexperienced, which may have contributed to the tragedy.
The accident occurred on a narrow, local road in Nurmijärvi, crossing the Luhta River, about 25 miles north of Helsinki. Rescue services were alerted by a passerby who noticed the car upside down in the water. The deaths of the young people have shaken the local community.
4 people dead. Finnish prime minister responds
Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and other ministers extended condolences to the victims' families. "Sad news, difficult to find the right words," wrote the head of the Finnish government on social media.
In response to the accident, Finnish authorities have organized a psychological support center for residents. On Sunday, a memorial service will be held to commemorate the victims and offer support to their families and the local community.
