The Times of Israel reported that last week, the United States Armed Forces, alongside Jordan, France, and Egypt, airdropped over 70,000 food rations in the northern Gaza Strip.
A slowdown in the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza was noted in February. UNRWA, a UN agency dedicated to supporting Palestinians, pointed fingers at Israel for this delay.
Conversely, COGAT, the Israeli body overseeing border crossings, asserted that Israel efficiently manages and authorizes aid transit across the border. The challenge, it claims, lies with the aid organizations in the Gaza Strip, which have struggled to unload and disperse the delivered aid.
Desperate measures for survival in the Gaza Strip
"We are reduced to consuming animal feed to stay alive. At times we eat bird feed, donkey feed, and even grass we gather from street corners in our battle against hunger," shared Suhail Habib, a spokesperson for Doctors Without Borders in the Gaza Strip.
For weeks, international organizations, along with a chorus of experts, journalists, and human rights advocates, have been highlighting the dire circumstances faced by the civilian population in the Gaza Strip. The situation is particularly severe in the north, where less humanitarian aid arrives compared to the south.
In October 2023, Hamas, the terrorist group governing the Palestinian enclave, initiated an armed invasion of Israel. This aggression resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths, predominantly among civilians, and around 240 abductions.
Following this, Israel launched retaliatory operations, resulting in nearly 31,000 Palestinian casualties. Consequently, at least 90 percent of Gaza Strip's more than 2 million inhabitants were displaced, and a significant portion of the region's infrastructure was obliterated.
