Tragedy: Twin toddlers found dead in car in Miami
Three-year-old twins passed away after they were discovered unresponsive in a car parked on the side of Interstate 95 in Miami early Friday. Upon the arrival of the police, the female driver sustained critical injuries after she jumped off an overpass - according to authorities.
According to Miami-Dade police, just before 2 a.m., 911 callers reported that there were two children unresponsive in an SUV in the northbound lanes of the highway near the Turnpike extension, which led to officers and fire rescue crews responding to the scene.
Police verified that a 3-year-old boy and girl, who were fraternal twins, were taken to Jackson North Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead. The cause of their death has yet to be disclosed.
Authorities have stated that, at a particular moment, the woman driving the vehicle containing the children leaped from the overpass, landing on the train tracks beneath.
According to WPLG Local 10 "despite the considerable fall, the driver survived and was transported to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where she is listed in critical condition".
