Tragedy strikes as 19‑year-old influencer Maria Sofia Valim dies following critical surgery

Maria Sofia Valim was both an influencer and a law student. She amassed nearly 100,000 followers on her Instagram account, where she shared insights into her personal life, showcasing her workout routines and skincare regimen. Moreover, Maria was an avid Taylor Swift fan. In one of her last posts, she shared the joy she felt while attending one of the star's concerts with her closest friends.

The grim news of the young celebrity's death was divulged on social media by Vitor Valim, her father, and the mayor of a municipality in Caucaia, Ceará, in Northeast Brazil. The teenager passed away on Saturday, December 9, a mere four days after undergoing a liver transplant operation.

"It is with profound pain and sadness that I share the passing of my beloved daughter Sofia. Tragically, her body could not sustain her. I extend my gratitude to everyone for their prayers and compassion towards me and my family during this time of immense grief," he shared on Instagram.

The dates for the funeral ceremonies are yet to be announced. However, Vitor Valim has shared that the farewell will take place among a close-knit circle of family members.
