The harrowing incident occurred on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at one of the specialized schools in Offenburg, Germany (Baden-Württemberg). Entering a classroom with nine students and two teachers, the suspected 15-year-old took aim and shot his classmate in the head twice from behind at point-blank range, resulting in the immediate and shocking escalation of events. The injured boy succumbed to his wounds in the hospital.
In the chaos that ensued after the shooting and his departure from the scene, the attacker also slightly wounded a teacher by striking her in the head as he fled. His rampage was halted by a parent who was at the school to pick up his child. Following the incident, the school was thrown into a state of alarm; students and teachers barricaded themselves inside classrooms, while the response from law enforcement was swift and significant -- four police helicopters were dispatched, and special forces arrived on scene as dozens of officers secured the perimeter.
The motive behind this appalling act, according to police, stemmed from "personal" reasons, with German media suggesting jealousy as a possible factor.
