Tragedy at Detroit clinic: Explosion claims young life
In Detroit, there was an explosion in a hyperbaric chamber, resulting in the death of a 5-year-old boy. The child's mother was injured. The causes of the accident are currently unknown.
The incident occurred on Friday morning at the Oxford Center medical facility in the suburbs of Detroit. At the time of the explosion, the boy was inside the chamber, and his mother was waiting nearby.
A statement from the Oxford Center reported that a fire broke out in the chamber. Firefighter Keith Young explained that the explosion was confined to the chamber itself. "The presence of such a large amount of oxygen in a pressurized environment can make it extremely flammable," he noted.
The Oxford Center authorities assure that the safety of children is their highest priority. "Nothing like this has happened in our more than 15 years of providing this type of therapy," the announcement states.
What is a hyperbaric chamber?
As reported by the Military Institute of Medicine, "oxygen therapy is a treatment method involving exposing the patient to gas mixtures containing high concentrations of oxygen under increased pressure conditions."
Such conditions can only be achieved in special hyperbaric chambers. In modern medicine, they are used to treat many ailments.
