Instead of over-the-counter medications, consider this wholesome alternative, which most likely lurks in your kitchen cabinet. We typically rely on flax seeds when dealing with digestive system issues. However, it has been discovered that these common flaxseeds effectively treat throat pain and coughs.

Treat dry and wet cough naturally with flaxseed

Flaxseed is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, ability to combat infections, and its effects in reducing pain and soothing the sensations of burning and scratching in the throat. Furthermore, flaxseed hydrates - the mucus that forms when the seeds are mixed with water create a protective layer on the throat walls, inhibiting harmful microorganisms' activities.

These properties make flaxseed an excellent solution for a dry, suffocating cough, especially when one has difficulty expelling phlegm. It's worth noting that flaxseed is also helpful in managing a wet cough. In such cases, it speeds up the phlegm expulsion process and lessens respiratory tract irritation. But how does one use flaxseed to treat a sore throat?

Flaxseed syrup recipe for cough

There are numerous methods, but flaxseed with honey offers the most benefits. It's important to note that honey has antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Moreover, it contains naturally occurring compounds that restrict the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms. Hence, honey can be very helpful in battling infections, especially throat infections.

So, how do you make flaxseed syrup with honey for a cough? Simply boil about 1/4 gallon of water with four tablespoons of flaxseed (whole seeds). The mixture should be simmered on low heat and be continuously stirred for around 15 minutes. Afterward, strain the concoction and allow it to cool. Once the flaxseed syrup has cooled down, sweeten it with honey. Taking half a cup of this syrup twice a day is recommended. Consume the mixture slowly, allowing it to cover the throat walls.
