Nakajima revealed the brand's plans during an interview with "Automotive News Europe." He described the new engines as game-changers that will revolutionize modern automotive technology.
According to Nakajima, Toyota's new internal combustion engines will be completely different from the currently used internal combustion engines in terms of efficiency and power supply. They are expected to feature high efficiency and compact external dimensions while maintaining significant engine displacement.
The smaller engines will be 92 cubic inches, and the larger ones will be 122 cubic inches. This indicates that Toyota is unlikely to pursue downsizing. Instead, it plans to leverage technologies already used in hydrogen models.
Although Toyota will primarily focus on gasoline hybrids, there are plans for versions powered by hydrogen and synthetic fuels. Despite the ambitious nature of these announcements, Toyota remains confident. According to Nakajima, ample room for fun still exists, hinting at innovative engineering and unconventional solutions.
If everything goes according to plan, the first cars using the new family of engines will hit the roads in 2027. However, more details will be disclosed much earlier.
