"We can confirm that unfortunately, one person died as a result of this incident," the Yorkshire County police reported. Torrential rains passed through this region of northeastern England. According to the BBC, the mudslide appeared in the city in the early afternoon.

"We can confirm that as a result of this incident, unfortunately, one person died. Our thoughts are now with their loved ones," said a spokesperson for the local police.

The North Yorkshire police also asked residents to avoid the cordoned-off area until further notice while work continues.

Officials said that no one else was injured and they would provide updates "as soon as possible."
