Toronto's shocking crime wave: Ex‑athlete turned suspect

Kauldhar grew up in a wealthy family, where she led a stable and peaceful life. She was the daughter of a pair of dentists, and her classmates remember her as an outstanding student and an excellent athlete.

She was a straight-A student and very active in sports, played high-level hockey and did figure skating when she was young, says one of Kauldhar's former friends in an interview with the "Toronto Sun."

However, he added, that over time, she went down "a bad path." Kauldhar began asking him for money, and when he refused, their contact broke off.

Surveillance footage and the suspect's change in appearance

The investigation revealed that surveillance footage shows Kauldhar near the site of one of the murders. She has become larger, has a distinctive nose piercing, and wears a tattoo on her forehead depicting a triangle, the symbol of the eye of Providence and the Hindu goddess Lakshmi. A patka covers her hair, a scarf traditionally worn by boys from Sikh families, to which she likely belongs.

Series of murders over three days

The series of murders began on October 1st. In the afternoon in Toronto, the body of a woman approximately 60 years old, who was connected to Kauldhar, was found. The perpetrator disappeared from the crime scene and the next day appeared in Niagara Falls, about 62 miles away, where she fatally stabbed Lance Cunningham, a 47-year-old man who was a random victim. The third murder occurred the following day in Hamilton, where Kauldhar stabbed 77-year-old Mario Billich.

Arrest and charge of serial murders

Kauldhar was apprehended on October 4th in Burlington by Lake Ontario. Police charged her with murder and manslaughter. Bill Fordy, the police chief, confirmed that Kauldhar is being treated as a serial killer. Although her first victim had some connection with her, the remaining victims, Cunningham and Billich, were random targets.

Investigation ongoing: Many questions remain unanswered

More than 100 investigators have been involved in the case, yet the motive for the crimes remains unknown.

During the arrest, Kauldhar had clothes with her that were purchased the previous day by another, unidentified woman in one of the discount stores. Police investigated to establish the identity of this woman, whose image was captured by cameras. It was unclear whether she was an accomplice of Kauldhar or possibly her next fourth victim. Eventually, thanks to the work of detectives, she was identified, but the role she played in the whole story has not yet been publicly revealed.

The case of Sabrina Kauldhar has shocked the Toronto community and all of Canada, and many questions remain unanswered. The investigation is ongoing, and new, shocking facts may yet come to light.
