Tom Selleck is certainly known to fans of American productions from the '80s, especially those with crime storylines. At one time, even Polish viewers followed the actions of his character – Thomas Magnum, a private detective living in Hawaii.
A recognizable mustache, beautiful tan, and sculpted body – those were Selleck's trademarks. The series was nominated for Emmy awards several times, with Selleck taking home the statue for Best Actor in 1985, confirming his star status. He was almost annually nominated for the Golden Globe, but he won the award only once in 1985. Since then, Selleck has been pigeonholed.
Tom Selleck after years
Although he appeared in many films and series, the actor once considered a viewer favorite never outshined his role in "Magnum, P.I." Worse, in 1993, he was nominated for the Golden Raspberry Awards. And twice. For the worst performance in the movie "Christopher Columbus: The Discovery" and in "Folks!" It was sad to watch.
Selleck landed roles in low-budget crime films or action flicks. He always appeared on screen with his distinctive black hair and mustache. In recent years, he earned primarily from the series "Blue Bloods." However, this year, the production decided to end, which was quite a disappointment for the actor.
He's become the talk of the town again. Paparazzi started chasing the actor. The 79-year-old actor and Vietnam War veteran became the subject of the tabloid press. In the new photos, he looks unrecognizable. It was noted that the actor likely underwent knee surgery recently. Below, you can see Selleck's latest photos.
In 2024, the actor's biographical book "You Never Know" was released. In it, he recalls how his show-business career started by accident. Someone noticed him when he appeared on the '60s dating show "The Dating Game."
"Just somebody saw me and a casting director said, 'You might want to go over to Fox.' They had an actual talent school. You didn't get much money, but you got a weekly salary and they had acting classes, voice classes, dance classes…. But the point is, if I hadn't grown up in L.A., none of this would have happened. So an awful lot was serendipitous," he recalls.
"Becoming a good actor became my dream," he says. "I was committed to being a good actor. I don't think I had visions of being a star, although I never thought of the business in that way," Selleck confessed. Many fans today hope his talent will be utilized worthily.
