Tim Blake Nelson's role cut from 'Dune 2' due to film's runtime
In an interview with MovieWeb, Tim Blake Nelson revealed he was slated to appear in the second installment of "Dune." Regrettably, his scenes were removed from the final cut due to the director, Denis Villeneuve, feeling the film's runtime was excessive. As a result, the movie clocks in at 2 hours and 46 minutes.
Tim Blake Nelson was cut from "Dune".
Nelson didn't disclose his intended role in "Dune," but fans speculate he was to play Count Hasimir Fenring, a key character in the novels closely linked to Emperor Shaddam IV.
"I don’t think I can say which scene it was. I'll leave that to Denis [Villeneuve] to discuss if he chooses to," Nelson remarked.
Was "Dune 2" too long?
Nelson later shared that being cut from the film was a heartbreaking experience: "I enjoyed filming that scene immensely. Then, to have it removed because of the movie's length was disappointing, but I bear no hard feelings. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and eagerly anticipate working with him again; it's certainly in my plans."
Tim Blake Nelson isn't the only actor to have scenes removed from "Dune." It was previously confirmed that scenes involving Thufir Hawat (played by Stephen McKinley Henderson) were also cut.
"Dune: Part Two" has captivated audiences and received stellar ratings. Box Office Mojo reports that since its release (February 28 worldwide), the film has grossed over $182 million globally.
Tim Blake Nelson is set to return in "Captain America 4," reprising his role as Samuel Sterns, also known as The Leader. He first portrayed this character 2008 in "The Incredible Hulk," starring Edward Norton.
