TikTok mom risks child's health for viral challenge, braving cold with wet hair

Stepping out into the cold with wet hair can have harmful consequences on both health and hair condition. Wet hair facilitates fast heat loss, raising the risk of catching a cold, respiratory tract infections, and in worst-case scenarios, meningitis. Moreover, an abrupt shift in temperature can negatively impact the hair structure, resulting in brittleness and split ends. It is advisable to completely dry your hair before leaving the house to prevent complications.

Mother risks child's health on TikTok

A video appeared on TikTok a few days ago displaying an irresponsible mother. The woman, operating under the channel name "haleybeechie," posted a video in which she attempts the "60 seconds outside with wet hair" challenge. The challenge involves going outside in cold weather with wet hair and bowing your head for 60 seconds, allowing the hair to freeze. The author's young daughter is also seen in the video. The clip quickly became viral, gaining close to 700 thousand likes, 20 thousand shares, and approximately 11 million views.

Many internet users expressed outrage at the mother's reckless behavior. In the comments they wrote, "Under no circumstances should we go outside with wet or damp hair. The freezing water expands in volume and damages the hair", "my Mexican mother would never have let me do this, even though I'm already 30 years old," "it can result in meningitis." However, several users applauded the TikToker's stunt: "what a lovely memory for your adorable daughter," "These are the moments she will remember. I adore her infectious laugh," "That laugh is delightful. Well done, mom".
