Coffee is a popular beverage, which in many situations turns out to be a real remedy for all evil. The healthiest option is black coffee or with a slight addition of milk. If you prefer it with other, more sophisticated additions, you should reconsider your decision.

Coffee is a beverage that is an integral part of many people's morning ritual. Regardless of what type of coffee you drink, in a few moments this black beverage can restore needed energy. Contrary to popular myths, drinking coffee can have a positive impact on health.

It's worth mentioning here that coffee improves liver function and has anti-cancer effects. On the other hand, there are situations where drinking coffee is not the best idea. In such cases, it's about certain additives that are better to avoid.

What about these extras?

Coffee with unusual additives can become your enemy, despite many beneficial properties. When does it happen? Mainly when you choose additives that, when mixed with coffee, can prove to be unhealthy. Interestingly, many of us use these type of solutions. Such additives are often used in popular coffee shops as well.

Some combinations might strain the pancreas. Moreover, they can also contribute to the development of serious diseases. That's why it's better to think well about these types of choices.

The worst additions to coffee

#1 Flavored syrups and artificial additives — most of these types of products are full of sugar and artificial coloring. These ingredients, in turn, have a negative effect on health. If you want to drink coffee with a unique flavor accent, opt for natural additives: a vanilla stick, dried fruits, or mint.

#2 Sugar — if you use it in small amounts, then everything is fine. The problem arises when you add decidedly too much of it.

#3 Saccharin and sweeteners — although products of this type do not contain calories, they can negatively affect metabolism. How? Well, they can increase appetite. A great alternative in this case would be stevia.

#4 Skimmed milk — a much better choice in this case is full-fat dairy. Why? Well, skimmed products contain more carbohydrates, and as a result, they may cause weight gain.

#5 Alcohol — this type of combination is the worst possible combination. It's better not to mix coffee and alcohol.

#6 Powdered creamer — by deciding on such a solution, you provide your body with not only sugar, but also empty calories.

Remember, the healthiest coffee is just plain black coffee. You can soften the bitter taste of the black drink with a small amount of sugar. And that's it!
