The hidden power of the loop: Why it’s on your shoes

Have you noticed the small loop located at the heel of the shoe? It may seem like a mere decoration, but in reality, the loop has several particular uses.
Small details that seem insignificant at first glance can often be essential. We often don't realize this. This principle is especially noticeable in fashion—whether it’s underwear, clothing, or accessories. It's not just about the looks but also functionality.
For example, not many people know that the small bow at the front of panties was used to help women distinguish the front of the underwear. This was particularly helpful when there was no electricity and people had to dress in the dark. Nowadays, bows are just a decoration.
But what about the loops on sports shoes, boots, or hiking boots? They’re not sewn on the back of the shoe just for their aesthetic potential. They have at least a few practical applications.
What is the loop on the shoe used for?
Who would have thought such an insignificant element as a small loop on the back of a shoe could be so useful? Firstly, it helps us put on the shoes more easily—when we want to put on the shoes, we just pull the loop, and we can slide our foot in without much trouble.
Secondly, if the shoes are too large or you don't feel stable and comfortable in them, you can thread the laces through the loops. This way, your feet will be well-secured, and they won't feel like they are about to "pop out" of the shoes.
Also, loops make it easier to carry the shoes, especially when dirty. Muddy or otherwise dirty shoes can be easily grabbed even with one finger. Loops are also useful after washing our sneakers or hiking boots. When taken out of the washing machine or washed by hand, the loops can easily grab the shoes. This spot is also ideal for attaching the shoes to a clothesline. It is best to dry the shoes with a clothespin or plastic clip.
