"The Crown", a dramatized tale of the Windsor family, is among Netflix's most popular shows. Fans worldwide watch it passionately and it is known to provoke significant debate. An example is the fifth season, which detailed the dissolution of Charles and Diana's marriage. Critics voiced objections about the insensitive timing of the premiere - just a day after the ninth anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's death at the age of 96.
The sixth and concluding season of "The Crown" has been split into two parts. The first part, comprising four episodes, will be released on November 16, with the second part (six episodes) premiering on December 14. In an interview with "Variety", series creator Peter Morgan disclosed that Queen Elizabeth II's death coincided with script writing, which greatly influenced the series' conclusion. The series will portray events up until 2005.
- We all witnessed the funeral. The depth of public feeling necessitated a thoughtful storyline for the last episode dealing with the death of a key character - even though she hasn't died at that point in the timeline - he explained.
The idea of concluding "The Crown" with Queen Elizabeth II's death was considered by Netflix but was abandoned when the monarch lived through several seasons of production. Morgan maintains that ending the series in 2005 is fitting. He said, "- It was the most apt moment for maintaining historical accuracy rather than journalistic, hence the decision". Morgan regularly leaves a 10-year gap between events and their portrayal, but he extended this period for "The Crown". "-I believe finishing almost 20 years before the current year is appropriate," he added.
